Fashionable Foundations Over Fads

It seems like a snooze fest, but I love mixing and matching neutrals and layering basic pieces. I take interest in fads that come and go, but nothing feels more satisfying than topping off a clean outfit with dainty jewelry and feminine accessories. Last year, I added silk scarves to my wardrobe consisting of crisp jeans and staple tops. I needed to add more oomph. Accessories make or break a look, and scarves allowed me to express an artistic flare with ease. I felt complete only with this Parisian go-to in my look du jour, whether wrapped around my hair or tied around my bag.

For purses, I am always on the lookout for pronounced handles, sharp metal edges, and boxy silhouettes. I prefer structured pieces to pull everything together, and Hermès’ Kelly Bag is my go-to inspiration. In addition to the purse, I admire, moreover, the muse Grace Kelly and her timeless fashion during the 1950s.

Though I love retro skirts and nipped-in waists (thank you, Dior!), I am a sucker for fitted jeans that hug the body. More days than not, I throw on this campus staple as I sprint out the door to make it to class. For a day look, I like to pair my jeans with blouses or sweaters, but for the night, I go for slinky, barely-there crop tops or band tees.

I hop around decades, cherry-picking a classic piece here and there to cultivate my wardrobe. What are your fashion favorites?
