The Canada Series 2016: the Purrfect Cafe: le Café Chat L’Heureux

Coffee or cats?

The beauty of le Café Chat L’Heureux is that you can have both! In this cafe, you are served light refreshments as cats freely roam the restaurant. Warning – would definitely avoid this place if you’re allergic to cats or dislike furry felines, but for cat enthusiasts this cafe is purrfect.

Other fun features are that they show how many likes the business has on its Facebook page, and the cafe I went to had an interactive chalkboard.

Montréal

Le Café Chat L'Heureux

Montréal radiates this hipster, artsy vibe. Especially with one-of-a-kind cafes like le Café Chat L’Heureux. Not only did the restaurant look aesthetically pleasing, but the staff was so kind that you felt at home.

I thought it was also interesting how the Canadian restaurants seemed so much more clean and sanitary compared to those in America. However, the irony is that they let live animals roam free while we continue to struggle with the following of food regulations. Not sure the reasoning behind this but just some food for thought (no pun intended).

Of course I loved the cats, coffee. However, what touched my heart the most was looking at this particular notebook with all of the comments. If I had to pinpoint the largest difference between American and Canadian cuisine, it would not be the food, but it would actually be the customer service.

To say that I felt at home is an understatement. Even though I was a foreign tourist who knew as much French as a native toddler, I truly felt like I was a part of the community each time I interacted with people. Writing in the notebook made me feel important to their coffee shop and not just a number for business.

This is another must-see place. Like all of the places I visited in Montréal, I definitely plan on coming here again if I have the opportunity to!

With style,

Sarah
