The Canada Series: La Basilique du Notre-Dame

Whether you are looking for Gothic architecture, feeling peace, or simply bucket-list-checking attractions of Montréal, the Basilica is a perfect match.

The absence of tourists allowed me to focus my attention on the beauty of the Notre-Dame Basillica. It was easy to lose track of time simply by staring at the jaw-dropping stained windows and sky-high ceiling. I tried disciplining myself to learn about the Basilica’s 20th-century renovations, but I was too occupied with observing the architecture to learn about the church’s history.

The perfectly stained windows teleported me back to the nineteenth century, and the grand pipes towards the front of the church made it seem as if I were attending a royal ceremony. Everywhere you went there were micro-details – carvings, fine prints, and pops of rich jewel tones.

Whether you are looking for Gothic architecture, feeling peace, or simply bucket-list-checking attractions of Montréal, the Basilica is a perfect match. I cannot wait until the day I return!

With style,

Sarah
